My Fingers Nearly Dropped Off

My Fingers Nearly Dropped Off

The month was January and after a long winter of endless rain I saw an opportunity for a week of cold but sunny weather was about to hit Scotland’s capital - Edinburgh. Without hesitation I booked a week at the last minute to stay in this most magnificent of UK cities. My mind was blown away with the sight of exquisite Victorian architecture (one has to look above eye level to really appreciate this). To make the most of this trip I found myself getting up before dawn and dragging myself (and equipment) to the top of Calton Hill to capture the sunrise over the city. Several days I did this and also staying out till dark, I was determined to nail this city! On more than one occasion I lost the feeling in my fingers due to sub zero temperatures, it’s been a long time since I felt cold on this level. The fact that I wrapped up well didn’t compensate for bare fingers that have operate dials and switches. The results were worth it though. Those icy cold temperatures lead to amazingly clear conditions perfect for capturing the beauty of this city - I hope you enjoy my captures as much as I enjoyed taking them, regardless that my fingers felt like they were going to drop off!

Not So Lacy Nottingham

A day in Nottingham, England, proved there is more to this place than just the lace making past. The day started off unpromising weather wise but later brightened up to reveal Nottingham at its best. Nottingham is a city where history meets modernity in an amalgamation of interesting sites to visit such as the River Trent, famous sporting venues, a Castle, the oldest inn in England to name but a few. Please see my Nottingham collection for more inspiration.

So Far So Scarborough

So Far So Scarborough

A short break in the North Yorkshire Coastal town of Scarborough started so well. I had been very fortunate to pick an unusually good week of weather which translated into sublime images of harbour sunsets in iridescent colours and a plethora of other similarly quality shots, I was having a field day! Then Covid struck. Taking comfort in the fact that I had got some great shots, I philosophised that Rome wasn’t built in a day and neither is a collection. One day I will return to this most loved of Yorkshire coastal towns which for me, holds so many childhood memories - yes Scarborough, one day I will return.
